Jonas Drammond used to be one of the best guides in the world. That changed, however, when he lost an expedition he was leading into the depths of the Amazon rainforest.

The last images that Applebaum’s sub sent up to the surface suggest there may be something monstrous down there, a deep sea fish beyond the size of anything Markowitz has ever seen in all his days of ocean exploration. Scientists Dr. Eccleston and Dr. Lerner have done many routine expeditions for the Skurzon Corporation in the past, helping the company search the ocean for newly available resources freed by melting ice. They’re expecting to maybe find oil at the bottom of the Arctic Sea. What they aren’t expecting is a lost island that defies all scientific understanding. When something comes out of the sea and destroys their research vessel, the scientists and the rest of the crew are forced into a game of survival against forces no human being has ever seen alive. If they can survive the giant insect swarms, the man-eating plants, and the dinosaurs, they might be able to live to tell the tale. But when each passing moment reveals murderers in their midst, their survival starts to look less and less likely.

For Simon, the trip was supposed to be a once in a lifetime gift: a journey to the Amazon River Basin, the land that he had dreamed about visiting since he was a child. His enthusiasm for the trip may be tempered by the poor conditions of the boat and their captain leading the tour, but most of the tourists think they can look the other way on it. Except things go wrong quickly. After a horrific accident, Simon and the other tourists find themselves trapped on a tiny island in the middle of the river. It’s the rainy season, and the river is rising. The island is surrounded by hungry bull sharks that won’t let them swim away. RECON MARINES

What started as a cakewalk for a large group of highly-trained marines becomes a desperate fight for survival as the deadly menagerie of the ship set out to systematically wipe the human invaders out.
