After nearly being killed in a Christmas day ambush, Thomas has been self-isolating at his home, working in his shop on his latest project. One February morning, he is visited by Sory Bartlett, the commander of the criminal investigation division of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

The two men have had a tenuous relationship which has sometimes been adversarial. But Sory has not come to spar, he’s asking to hire Thomas to find the author of a threatening letter to his uncle, a retired police captain. He tells Thomas they have found fingerprints on the letter and they belong to a woman who died forty years ago at the hands of five corrupt police officers, one of whom is his uncle and two of them have recently been brutally murdered.

The motives of both are unknown but do not bode well for the survivors.
